Future of pig breeding highlighted in HIPRA event

In conjunction with the sixth European Symposium of Porcine Health Management (ESPHM), HIPRA organized a pre-congress event on May 6 entitled "2030: Imagining the Future of Sows.” The event, held in Sorrento, Italy, was attended by more than 160 porcine specialists from all over the world.
The event, which was highly original, began with an audiovisual screening that showed the evolution of pig breeding in the last few years. Subsequently, John Carr, Guy-Pierre Martineau, Heindrick Nienhoff, Joaquim Segalés and moderator Carlo Lasagna discussed the keys to porcine production.
The topics that most attracted the audience’s attention were the future of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) in Europe, the appearance of new syndromes, the return of old diseases and the prevention, control and diagnostic strategies to be developed in the near future.
