Fire breaks out at Tyson poultry plant’s boiler room

A fire broke out in the early morning hours on September 12 in the broiler room at a Tyson Foods poultry plant in Glen Allen, Va. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The fire was discovered around 2:30 a.m. during a sanitation shift when the poultry plant was not in operation, according to Tyson Foods spokesman Gary Mickelson.
There were about 80 people in the facility at the time, all of whom safely evacuated to a parking lot by the time firefighters arrived. Nobody was injured.
"Thanks to the quick response of local firefighters, the fire was put out quickly and the damage was limited," said Mickelson.
The plant has since resumed operations, although the first shift of production was delayed two hours.
