Chinese import more pig entrails

China imported more than 50,000 tons of pork in January and February. In the first quarter of 2013, China imported 132,000 tons of pork in total, a 10 percent decrease from last year. The important of pig entrails increased 3 percent, to 217,000 tons.
Due to stricter control on clenbuterol hydrochloride, or lean meat powder, China decreased its importing from the United States while increasing its activities in Germany and Spain. China imported 24,000 tons of pork from the U.S., accounting for 18 percent of China's total pork import in this period, and 30,000 tons from Germany, 22 percent of the same period. Germany is now becomes the number one pork source for China. Pork supply in Chinese domestic market remains steady and the import of pork and pig entrails gives no sign of decreasing.
