Big Dutchman co-founder Jack DeWitt died at the age of 100 at his home in Zeeland, Mich., on January 6.
DeWitt founded the automated poultry and swine production systems company with his brother, Dick, in 1938. They began with a single invention, the "Big Dutchman" automated poultry feeder, which was the first automatic feeding system. DeWitt sold his interest in the company in 1968 and today Big Dutchman is headed by Bernd Meerpohl and headquartered in Germany with over 1,600 employees and subsidiaries on every continent.
