Many Chinese poultry farms are turning on the stereo in hopes of turning bigger profits. According to China Central Television, chicken farmers report that their chickens eat more and are healthier when music is added to their daily routine.
A news segment on the network featured one farmer from Jiangsu province who plays recordings of Chinese classical music daily to his flock of 5,000 broilers. "We turn on the stereo at 10 a.m. every day. If we don't turn it on, the birds refuse to eat,” he told the network.
The farmer keeps a record of each day’s playlist along with the amount of feed that the chickens eat so he can track which musical styles the flock responds to best.
